As a destination, there are few places like the Sierra Foothills
There is a spirit here in the foothills, that echoes back to days long gone. The history and legacy of what occurred here in the 1840’s left an indelible mark on the land, like a hot stamp on a gold bar. The place names, the buildings, the roads all reflect the people who lived here before and who live here now. The spirit of the new pioneers is alive and well, especially in the vineyards and wineries that can be found all through the slopes and valleys of the Sierra Foothills.
The new gold standard is grapes, and the results are wines that rival the best regions in world! There are also new breweries being established, and they thrive on the idea of this new Old West culture, making beers and ales that push the boundaries and allow for experimentation and discovery. The food scene is exploding, with restaurants using locally sourced ingredients and foods that come from this region’s rich soils.
The spirit of adventure is alive and well here too. An adrenaline rush is only a paddle away, as you get sprayed with the whitewater of the powerful American River, feel the flakes of fresh powder hit your face while speeding down the slopes of the Sierra, or touch the ancient granite faces of the cliffs as you climb, fingers wedged into the tiniest of crevices. Depending on the season you can fish, backpack, hike and go boating At the end of your adventure, a cozy feather bed awaits you in a historic bed & breakfast, Inn or hotel, many of which have hosted colorful characters and dignitaries of bygone days. The Sierra Foothills is waiting to be discovered once again; this time by you! Join me as we explore it together!
